Version: v1.0 — April 2026
1. Who we are
Linguistic Quest is owned and operated by Southern African Traders Ltd trading as Linguistic Quest. In these Terms, "Linguistic Quest", "we", "us" and "our" mean Southern African Traders Ltd.
- Company: Southern African Traders Ltd
- Company number: 12003857

2. About Linguistic Quest
Linguistic Quest is an Africa-focused language-learning puzzle website. It provides family-oriented and school-oriented language-learning puzzles, vocabulary activities, progress tracking, and related educational content.
The Service may be used by:
- (a) parents or legal guardians who purchase or administer access for children;
- (b) children using a profile created or managed by a parent or legal guardian;
- (c) schools, teachers, districts, clubs, education providers or similar institutions; and
- (d) approved affiliate or referral partners, where applicable.
3. These Terms
These Terms govern your access to and use of Linguistic Quest. By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, accessing a school account, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you use the Service on behalf of a school, company or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Notice, any pricing page, any school order form, and any written agreement signed by us.
4. Eligibility
4.1 Adult account holders
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a contract to create an account, buy a subscription, or administer a family or school plan.
4.2 Parent-managed child profiles
Children under 16 do not create their own main Linguistic Quest account. A parent or legal guardian creates and manages the child profile. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for the child's use of the Service.
4.3 Users aged 16 or over
Where a user is 16 or over, they may use a child or learner profile within a family account, but billing and account administration remain controlled by the adult account holder unless we expressly allow otherwise.
4.4 School users
Students using the Service through a school account access the Service under arrangements made by their school. The school is responsible for deciding whether and how the Service is used by its students. Where we process student personal data for a school, the applicable School Data Processing Agreement applies.
5. Accounts and security
- You must provide accurate and current information when creating an account.
- You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential. You must not share your account login with anyone except where the Service expressly allows linked child profiles or school-managed learner access.
- You must notify us promptly at feedback@linguisticquest.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
- We may require you to reset your password or take other security steps if we reasonably believe your account may have been compromised.
6. Child profiles and parental consent
6.1 Creating a child profile
When creating a child profile, you may be asked to provide limited information, such as the child's first name or nickname, age or age range, language preferences, and learning progress.
You must not provide a child's full legal name, precise date of birth, home address, school address, or other unnecessary identifying information unless we specifically request it for a lawful purpose.
6.2 Parental confirmation
By creating a child profile, you confirm that:
- (a) you are the child's parent or legal guardian;
- (b) you consent to the child using Linguistic Quest;
- (c) you understand that we will process the child's personal data as described in our Privacy Policy; and
- (d) you will supervise the child's use of the Service as appropriate.
6.3 Parent controls
Parents may edit, suspend or delete child profiles through account settings or by contacting us. Unless we are legally required to retain certain information, deletion of a child profile will remove the profile from active production systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days.
7. School accounts
Schools are responsible for:
- (a) deciding which students and staff may use the Service;
- (b) obtaining any required parental notices, permissions or approvals;
- (c) ensuring that school users use the Service appropriately;
- (d) managing student access credentials; and
- (e) complying with their own data protection, safeguarding and education-law obligations.
Where a conflict exists between these Terms and a signed school agreement or School Data Processing Agreement, the signed school agreement or School Data Processing Agreement takes priority for the relevant school use.
8. Subscriptions, billing and trials
8.1 Plans
We may offer free, trial, monthly, annual, family, school or other subscription plans. Features, limits and pricing are set out on our pricing page or in the applicable order form.
8.2 Currency
Unless stated otherwise, prices are shown in Pounds Sterling (GBP). Your bank, card issuer, PayPal or other payment provider may apply exchange rates, charges or fees.
8.3 Payment processing
Payments may be processed by PayPal or another payment provider. We do not store full payment card numbers, CVV codes or card expiry dates on our own servers. Payment providers process payment information under their own terms and privacy notices.
8.4 Free trials
Where a paid plan includes a free trial, the trial length and any payment requirements will be shown before purchase. Unless stated otherwise at checkout, your paid subscription will start automatically at the end of the trial period unless cancelled before the trial ends.
8.5 Automatic renewal
Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You may cancel through your account settings or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period unless applicable law requires otherwise.
8.6 Refunds
Your statutory rights are not affected.
Where you are a UK consumer buying digital content or services online, you may have cancellation rights under consumer law. However, where you expressly request immediate access to digital content or digital services during a cancellation period, you may lose or limit your right to cancel once supply has begun, to the extent permitted by law.
In addition to statutory rights, we may offer a goodwill refund within 14 days of the first paid subscription charge where the Service has not been substantially used. This goodwill policy does not affect your legal rights. Refunds are normally issued to the original payment method.
8.7 Price changes
We may change subscription prices by giving at least 30 days' notice by email or in-app notice. Price changes apply from your next renewal date. You may cancel before the renewal if you do not accept the new price.
8.8 Failed payments
If a payment fails, we may suspend or downgrade access until payment is made. We may retry failed payments using the payment method on file, where permitted by the payment provider and applicable law.
8.9 School billing
School plans may be billed by invoice, PayPal invoicing or bank transfer. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, invoices are payable within 30 days of the invoice date.
9. Referral programme
We may operate a referral programme for users. Referral benefits, eligibility criteria, attribution windows, limits and anti-abuse rules will be published on the referral page or otherwise notified to participants.
We may refuse, reverse or remove referral credits where we reasonably suspect fraud, self-referral, misleading promotion, artificial sign-ups, abuse, breach of these Terms, or other manipulation.
10. Affiliate programme
Approved affiliates may participate in our affiliate programme under a separate Affiliate Programme Agreement. No person may claim to be our affiliate, agent, representative or partner unless we have approved them in writing. The Affiliate Programme Agreement is a private business document and must not be published publicly unless we agree in writing.
11. Acceptable use
You must not:
- (a) copy, sell, resell, licence, sublicense, distribute or commercially exploit the Service except as expressly allowed by us;
- (b) reverse engineer, scrape, crawl, spider, probe, benchmark or attempt to extract source code, datasets or content except to the extent permitted by law;
- (c) use bots, scripts or automated systems to access the Service without our written permission;
- (d) upload malware, malicious code or harmful material;
- (e) interfere with or disrupt the Service;
- (f) access accounts, profiles, systems or data that you are not authorised to access;
- (g) use the Service to harass, threaten, defame, abuse or harm any person;
- (h) submit unlawful, offensive, discriminatory or exploitative material;
- (i) use the Service in breach of sanctions, export-control or anti-bribery laws;
- (j) misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person;
- (k) bypass any security, age, usage, subscription or access control;
- (l) use the Service for high-stakes language certification, immigration, legal, medical, financial or safety-critical decisions; or
- (m) allow anyone outside your authorised household, school or organisation to use your account.
12. Educational content and language accuracy
We aim to provide useful and culturally respectful language-learning content, with a particular focus on African languages and Africa-related learning. However, language usage varies by country, region, dialect, community and context. The Service may contain errors, omissions or variations.
The Service is provided for general educational enrichment. It is not a substitute for professional teaching, formal examination preparation, official translation, legal interpretation or certified language assessment.
13. AI-generated and assisted content
Some content, audio, examples, hints, pronunciations or explanations may be generated or assisted by artificial intelligence. We may use review processes before publishing material changes, but AI-assisted output may contain inaccuracies, unnatural phrasing or cultural mistakes. You should report suspected errors to feedback@linguisticquest.com.
14. Intellectual property
All rights in the Service belong to us or our licensors. This includes puzzles, software, designs, text, images, icons, mascots, characters, logos, trade marks, audio, databases, learning content, user interface elements, and the overall look and feel of the Service.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal, family, classroom or internal educational use, as applicable to your plan.
You must not remove copyright, trade mark or proprietary notices.
15. User content and learner input
You or your learners may submit answers, saved words, vocabulary choices, progress data, feedback or similar input. You retain any rights you have in your own input. You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, store, process, display, reproduce and use that input as necessary to provide, secure, support, improve and administer the Service.
We will handle personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the School Data Processing Agreement.
16. Feedback
If you send us feedback, ideas or suggestions, we may use them without payment or restriction, provided we do not use personal data except as described in our Privacy Policy.
17. Third-party services and links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services, including payment processors, authentication providers, hosting providers, analytics tools, or educational resources. We are not responsible for third-party websites or services. Your use of third-party services may be governed by their own terms and privacy notices.
18. Availability and changes to the Service
We may update, improve, suspend, withdraw or change any part of the Service. We will try to give reasonable notice of material changes that negatively affect paid users, but we may make urgent changes without notice for security, legal, operational or safeguarding reasons.
We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or available at all times.
19. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access if:
- (a) you breach these Terms;
- (b) payment is overdue;
- (c) we reasonably suspect fraud, abuse or security risk;
- (d) we are required to do so by law;
- (e) continued access may expose us, users, children, schools or third parties to harm; or
- (f) we discontinue the Service or relevant plan.
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may cancel subscriptions through account settings or by contacting us.
Clauses intended to survive termination will continue, including clauses on intellectual property, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability, data deletion, governing law and disputes.
20. Consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer. If you are a consumer resident in the UK, you have rights under UK consumer law, including rights that digital content and services must be provided with reasonable care and skill, as described, and in accordance with applicable consumer protections.
21. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not promise that:
- (a) the Service will meet your specific learning goals;
- (b) any learner will achieve fluency or a particular educational result;
- (c) all content will be accurate, complete or up to date;
- (d) pronunciation or dialect examples will be accepted in every region or community;
- (e) the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free; or
- (f) defects will always be corrected.
22. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights.
Subject to the above, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of:
- (a) £100; or
- (b) the amount you paid to us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Subject to applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, loss of anticipated savings, loss of business opportunity, or loss of data.
23. Indemnity
If you use the Service as a business, school or organisation, you agree to indemnify us against losses, claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses arising from your breach of these Terms, misuse of the Service, unlawful content, or breach of applicable law.
This indemnity does not apply to consumers to the extent prohibited by consumer law.
24. Force majeure
We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including internet failures, hosting outages, payment-provider failures, cyberattacks, strikes, war, civil unrest, epidemics, natural disasters, power failures, government action or changes in law.
25. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, normally at least 30 days, by email, in-app notice or website notice.
If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and cancel any subscription before the changes take effect.
26. Assignment
You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer our rights or obligations to an affiliate, successor, purchaser or group company, provided this does not materially reduce your rights.
27. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may also have the right to bring claims in the courts of the country where they live and to rely on mandatory local consumer protections.
